Pierre Wrestling sent 69 total wrestlers to the state tournament this past weekend in Sioux Falls and Pierre would see five be crowned a state champion while also seeing a Governor be named the Class A wrestler of the year.
Starting with Alex Oedekoven, he was awarded the South Dakota Wrestling Coaches Association Class A wrestler of the year for the 2025-26 campaign to close out his High School career. According to the Pierre Governor wrestling page, Oedekoven closes out his Pierre career with a 203-38 record, adding a Junior freestyle title at 150 pounds this weekend and winning this year’s Class A 150 pound state championship during the high school season.
The five folkstyle division champions for Pierre are Olivia Deffenbaugh in the 10U girls at 110 pounds, Jayce Jensen in the 10U boys at the 77, Asher Spoehr 12U boys at 93, Bentley Minder in the 14U boys at 70 and Josiah Boutchee in the 14U boys 160. Pierre also had second place finishers from Laney Strait and Tucker Tobin. Thea Deffenbaugh, Brecklyn Mitchell and Finn Mancuso all placed third.
