PIERRE, (KCCR) — South Dakota News Watch, the non-profit South Dakota news operation is hosting a one-hour interactive presentation tonight on the role civics and news organizations have on society. The presentation is titled 250 Plus Years of American Civics and News. It’s part of a series of free town halls, discussions and community gatherings intended to provide South Dakotans with information about the political process and help them identify credible news sources so they can be informed. The presentation will look at the role journalists have had from the Revolutionary War papers to podcasters in the nation’s history. It will also look at the branches of government and the role news plays in providing fact-based information to communities. The Pierre presentation is from six-to-seven pm at the Pierre Area Chamber Community Room. Longtime Pierre attorney Jana Miner and South Dakota NewsWatch Chief Executive Officer Carson Walker host the presentation. The League of Women Voters will be at the event to help with the registering of voters for this year’s election cycle.
