FORT PIERRE, (KCCR) — Local law enforcement are encouraging homeowners to be proactive with securing their property in both Pierre and Fort Pierre. According to the Stanley County Law Enforcement Facebook page, deputies took several reports Monday morning of individuals going into closed garages and homes and stealing items. Most of the items taken were from unlocked parked cars in unlocked garages. In a handful of incidents, items were taken from inside homes, again through unlocked doors. The post states that similar incidents seem to have taken place in Pierre as well in a time frame from midnight to the early morning hours of Monday. Meanwhile, the Pierre Police Department investigating reports of a suspicious individual attempting to open a residential door and a theft from an unlocked vehicle on Lakewood Drive. A second resident reported an unknown person entering their garage on West Pleasant Drive. In addition to the Stanley County Sheriff’s Office, local state and federal law enforcement are investigating the cases together. Anyone with information about the break-ins should contact the Stanley County Sheriff’s Office, Pierre Police Department, or the South Dakota Department of Criminal Investigation. Authorities advise residents to keep all doors locked including garage doors and vehicle doors within garages.
