The Dakota State Trojans women’s basketball team would garner a 48-37 lead at halftime and hold on to beat Georgetown of Kentucky to win 85-79 Saturday to advance to the NAIA National Semifinals.
The Trojans had four players in double figures in the win led by Caitlin Dyer and Teel Tabor with 16 points each. Cierra Watkins had 13 and Ella Carstensen had 11 points off the bench. Dakota State shot 45% in the first quarter and 56% in the second and overall was at 43% for the game and went 17-26 from the free throw line. Georgetown’s Anna Long had the game high 21 points as five players had double figures for Georgetown as they shot 38% from the field and 42% from long range.
The win puts the Trojans into the semifinals and will face Dordt in the semifinals in the first game of the night on Monday. Tip off is at 6:00 from the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
