The Stanley County Buffaloes will have to wait until the last game tonight to face the Clark/Willow Lake Cyclones in the first round of the Class A State Tournament in Rapid City.
Both teams are coming in at 20-2 on the season as the Cyclones are the three seed in Class A while the Buffs come in as the sixth seed. Clark/Willow Lake has won seven in a row which also includes a win over the four seed in Hamlin. The Cyclones are 2-2 against state tournament teams beating both Hamlin and Groton Area, but falling to the two seed West Central and top seed Sioux Falls Christian for the only two losses of the season. Joey Fischer, head coach of the Buffaloes says they’re a very good basketball team…
The Cyclones are led in scoring by Sully Felberg with 16.4 points per game but also have Chris Bevers averaging 15 points a game and Emmerson Larson with 11.3 per game. Stanley County’s Trevor Caldwell at 6’8 and Teegyn Breitag at 6’4 will get to battle the Cyclones Felberg who also stands at 6’8. Bo Begeman is 6’6. The taller lineup for the Cyclones could cause fits for the Buffs, but the sharp shooting can be the key. The Buffs shoot 32% from long range while the Cyclones are at 26%. Stanley County also shoots over 50% from the field on average per game. They’re led by Eddie Duffy’s near 20 points per game while Paxton Deal is averaging 16.3 points per game. Another key is the Jones County Tournament which the Buffs played in and won two years ago and got second this past year. While the competition really ramps up, Fischer says playing three games in three days can be beneficial…
Fischer says they need to be able to rebound the ball against the size of Clark/Willow Lake…
