The Stanley County Buffaloes boys basketball team is about to embark on uncharted territory heading to the Class A state basketball tournament for the time in school history since 1997.
It truly is uncharted territory for nearly everybody with the team as the tournament predates head coach Joey Fischer who wasn’t even born…
Fischer was born in 2000. But with the drought, these young men understand the importance this trip to Rapid City is for the school and for the community of Fort Pierre. Senior Paxton Deal says it means a lot for the support, but he knows this community has always been behind them…
The Buffaloes are a remarkable 20-2 on the year with both losses to teams in the Class B state tournament in Lyman, who they beat later in the season and Sully Buttes. Stanley County has had many impressive teams since 1997 but just didn’t make it to the state tournament. Fischer says there’s been a lot of former players and coaches reaching out to show support and feel like they’re a part of Buffalo basketball reaching this spot…
While excited to be going to the state tournament, the Buffs also aren’t satisfied with just making the state tournament and junior Eddie Duffy says they’re ready to compete…
The sixth seeded Buffaloes will take on three Clark/Willow Lake with the final game of the night on Thursday. Tip off is at 7:45 with coverage beginning around 7:15 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
