The Lyman Raiders girls basketball team would fall to the Corsica-Stickney Jaguars Thursday afternoon in the first round of the Class B state tournament in a 65-56 stunner as the top seeded Raiders will move the consolation side of the bracket.
The Raiders came in as the number one team in Class B and had been one of those top teams all season long. But on Thursday, a team who they beat back in January, came through with a big second and third quarter to grab the first round win. Braylee Bordewyk would lead Corsica-Stickney with 26 points on the day and hit 9-10 free throws to help the Jaguars get the upset win. After Lyman led 20-12 after the first quarter, Corsica-Stickney tied the game at the half and then outscored the Raiders by eight in the third to take the eight point lead into the fourth. Lyman cut the deficit to 58-55 with two minutes remaining, but the Raiders couldn’t score down the stretch and the Jaguars hit their free throws going 16-18 from the line. Jordynn Scott had 28 points for the game high for Lyman as Kenzie Wagner went for 12.
Lyman will face fifth seed Colman-Egan in the consolation semifinal at 11:00 on Friday in Brookings.
