PIERRE, (KCCR) — The District 24 legislative races are coming more into focus with just a few weeks left for candidates to turn in petitions. Incumbent Senator Jim Mehlhaff turned in petitions March 6th. Mark Nelson of Philip had his petitions submitted to the Secretary of State’s office March 12th making, so far, a confirmed three-man Republican primary for District 24 Senate. Also previously turning in petitions was Brian Murphy of Pierre. A primary for the District 24 House is also looking likely after petitions were confirmed for Regan Bollweg of Harrold. Bollweg joins incumbent Representative Mike Weisgram in submitting petitions. Former Pierre Mayor Laurie Hill has announced her campaign for House, but has not yet submitted petitions. In District 26, Incumbent Senator Tamera Grove of Lower Brule submitted petitions to retain her seat in the Senate. However she is being challenged for that single seat by the House term-limited Rebecca Reimer of Chamberlain. Democrat Eric Emery has turned in petition for the House in District 26-A; which includes western and southern Jones, Mellette and Todd Counties.
