The Oahe Capitals would fall in the state semifinals on Friday night in a 7-1 loss to the Brookings Rangers and will play for third place on Saturday against Watertown.
Brookings opened up with a power play goal in the first period as Kinzey Grendler would finish with a hat trick in the win for the Rangers as Brookings would score four in the second period to take a 5-0 lead and start run time in the third. Aubrey Stewart would get the lone goal with a short handed goal to make it 6-1 but it was too little too late as the Rangers will meet Sioux Falls in the state championship Saturday night after their 7-0 win over Watertown. Oahe will meet Watertown for the third place game trying to beat the Lakers for the fourth time in four tries.
The consolation championship will be between Mitchell and Aberdeen at 1:00, followed by Oahe and Watertown at 4:00 for third place and then Sioux Falls faces Brookings at 7:00 in the championship. All three games will be on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports.
