The top seed in Region 6B will look to upset the Centerville Tornadoes at Mitchell High School tonight to reach the Class B state tournament in the 7-10 matchup for the SoDak 16.
The Pirates are coming in at 18-4 beating Sully Buttes and North Central in the 6B playoffs to make the SoDak 16 as the 10 seed. However, the Pirates have lost two of the last five games heading into the night. Autumn Fallis and Addison McDonnel are the only two seniors for the Pirates who look to be a staple team fighting for a state tournament spot for the next several years. Centerville only has three seniors as they come in at 20-2 on the season and have won 14 straight. Centerville’s only South Dakota loss came against Gayville-Volin, who they avenged, beating them 43-33 to reach the SoDak 16. Highmore-Harrold is looking for its first trip to the state tournament since 2011 where they placed third while Centerville is coming off a third place win last year and state champions two years ago. It would be a third straight trip for the Tornadoes.
Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 from Mitchell High School. The two seed Parkston plays the 15 seed De Smet at 5:30 prior to the Highmore-Harrold and Centerville game. If Parkston wins without any upsets, Centerville will play them in the first round. If Highmore-Harrold wins and there’s on upset win from seeds 11-14, the Pirates would face the Trojans in the first round.
