For the second straight year, the Oahe Capitals will open the girls state tournament as the Caps will take on the host team, Mitchell Marlins in the 3-6 matchup.
The Lady Capitals swept the Marlins in the regular season beating Mitchell 2-1 to open the season, then 7-4 at home and finishing the sweep of the Marlins in Mitchell 3-0. Oahe finished the regular season at 14-7 while the Marlins went 7-14 finishing just one point back of fifth place. Mitchell is led by Taylor Sorben’s 22 goals while Makenna Tronnes has 19 assists to lead the team. The Capitals are led by Dakota McEntaffer’s 13 goals with Mallory Lehrkamp having 10. Lehrkamp has the team lead with 12 assists but 17 of the 19 players to dress for at least one varsity game has picked up a point and eight have 10 points or more. The Caps and Marlins will see either Rushmore or Brookings in the second round depending on both outcomes of the games. Oahe will play at either 12:00 or 5:00 on Friday with a loss or win with the games at 1:00, 4:00 and 7:00 on Saturday.
