Pierre Governor wrestler Alex Oedekoven finished off a near perfect season on Saturday winning the 144 state championship in double overtime.

Oedekoven finished the season at 48-1 and the senior, while going to wrestle in college, goes out as a state champ with the Pierre Governors. He was the lone Governor to win a state title. Porter Hunsley and Jordan Schafer each would get fourth place on Saturday with the Governors getting Bode Minder and Will Eilers placing seventh overall. Pierre would finish ninth in the standings with 83 total points. Sturgis would win a second straight team title scoring a 219.5. Brandon Valley was second at 174.5.

For the Governor girls, Shaylee Speck in the 100 would be pinned in the state championship as she finished the year at 39-6 taking second place. Lexie Hillmer would win her third place match in the 135 while Abbigail Lewis would place fourth and Sydney Caven would finish in eighth place for Pierre. The Governor girls state title run would come to an end as they would place 11th at 66.5 points. Canton claims their first girls title with a team score of 169 points. Watertown placed second at 131.5.
