The Pierre Governor girls and boys basketball teams would both fall on Friday and Saturday to close out the season as the girls would fall Friday 56-51 to Roosevelt and 56-31 to Watertown on Saturday. The boys would lose 62-60 to Roosevelt Friday and then 74-45 Saturday to Watertown.
The Governor girls would finish the regular season at 5-15 and the Govs will be the 15 seed into the SoDak 16 to face the O’Gorman Lady Knights on Friday. Pierre lost by just five to Roosevelt in the final home game in a hard fought battle as senior Emery Larson led with 19 points on the night for the Govs. Pierre didn’t get the offense to click as much in the second game of the weekend scoring just 31 against the Arrows on Saturday. Watertown did just come up short of making the SoDak 16. Molly Olson had 17 points to lead the Govs in the final game.
The Governor boys would get a shot to win the game on Friday with Corde Austin taking a three in the final seconds, but a partially blocked shot would leave it offline and short and give the Roughriders the win in a near massive upset in the final weekend of the regular season. Roosevelt finished the season at 16-4 and is the number two seed in the SoDak 16 next weekend. Bryson Skogsberg and Capital Schmaus would each have 11 points to lead the Roughriders who finished balance in scoring. Jerren Deal had the game high 23 points with Caiden Ahartz having 14 and Corde Austin with nine. In game two of the weekend, the Govs ran out of steam in a 29 point loss to the Watertown Arrows at home with the Govs down just 13 at the end of the first half but it swelled to 29 after three. Cooper Terwilliger led the Govs in the final game of the year with 18 points and Deal had 17 as Pierre finishes at 6-14 on the regular season and will be the 14 seed to face Huron on Saturday.
The Governor girls will play in Sioux Falls against O’Gorman on Friday and then the Governor boys will be in Huron on Saturday for their respective SoDak 16 games.
