The Oahe Capitals boys varsity team would finish out the regular season on Saturday falling to Yankton in Mitchell on Friday, 5-2 before winning 5-1 on Saturday over Watertown.
Starting on Friday, the Caps opened up with a 2-0 lead on the Bucks, the second time they’ve done that this year against Yankton, but for the second straight time, the Bucks battled back to beat the Caps. Dylan Dodson would score the first goal, hitting Luke Moeller, the Yankton goalie, on the side of the leg from the side of the goal line and ricocheting into the net. Then Logan Anderson would get a great feed from Logan Brown and after his shot was stopped by Moeller, Brown tucked in the rebound. However, Yankton would get two short handed goals and a power play goal to take a 3-2 lead and would add on an empty net goal to seal a 5-2 win. Noah Lueking would stop 39 shots on 43 attempts.
On Saturday, Asher Vanden Bos would score just 30 seconds into the game on a threading feed from Dodson, but it would be just 1-0 after one. Ayden Behm would score on the power play in the second period to take a 2-0 lead after two periods as the Caps outshot the Lakers 39-18 through two periods, but Watertown tried to stay in the game with the work of goalie Kohl Nygaard. But Lyle Boni would poke check a puck on net and slide it past Nygaard to make it 3-0 and Bridger Babcock would redirect a Behm shot to make it 4-0 before the Lakers could score. Brown would pick up his second of the weekend with a power play goal to claim the 5-1 win as Jace Hand made 21 saves on 22 shots for the win between the pipes.
Oahe finishes the season at 11-10-0-1 and will be the sixth seed in the state tournament. Yankton will finish at the three seed and the two will meet in the first game on Thursday, March 12 in Sioux Falls to open the tournament at noon. Capital City Rock will have all 11 games of the girls state tournament this Thursday through Saturday before being in Sioux Falls for all 11 games.
