The Pierre Governor boys and girls wrestling teams will be on display this weekend in Sioux Falls at the state tournament beginning today and running through Thursday.
The Governor boys will now have a full roster with Damen Horsley being added into the 157 tournament this morning. He was the first alternate and with someone unable to compete he slides into the tournament. Devin Binger being the 13th man to qualify being in fifth place in his region. Now, the Governors will have every weight class filled with a Gov including the 144 with senior Alex Oedekoven who marked his 200th win on Saturday winning a region championship. Sturgis will be the favorite to win the team title, but the Govs have their sights set on a making a run for the team title and individual titles.
The Governor girls head into the state tournament with nine of the 13 weight classes competing after the injury to Kezrey Benning will sideline her for her final state tournament. The Govs are still the only team to win a team state title but with four spots open in weight classes, the task will be much more difficult to get it done. Lexie Hillmer was the lone Gov to win a Region Championship, but Abbigail Lewis, Shaylee Speck and Sydney Caven each got second place in their weight class.
