PIERRE, (KCCR) — One of the empty “vehicle” bills used in the South Dakota legislature to support a sudden need is being used to house a measure to fund restoration of the South Dakota State Capitol. Prior to Monday, Senate 119 was an Act to Make an Appropriation to Enhance the Economic Health of South Dakota. Senator Chris Karr filled S-B 119 to create the Capitol Restoration Fund and to Transfer Moneys Thereto…
Senator Jim Mehlhaff followed off of Karr’s words….
Senator Steve Kolbeck supports keeping the State Capitol in a safe condition…
Senator Michael Rohl says the state has other, more important needs than preserving and improving the Capitol…
The bill was amended from 25-million dollars to 101-dollars as a procedural move to keep the bill alive while appropriators determine how much money is available to support the restoration fund. S-B 119 passed the Senate 21 to 12.
