(Highmore, SD) – A tough shooting night for the Chargers along with a 22 point second quarter output from Highmore-Harrold spoiled the Sully Buttes girls sports for the second time this season with a 60-31 final.
The Chargers were entering their second day of a back-to-back and were looking to carry momentum into what they hoped was the upset of the season so far in post-season basketball. The Pirates are the number one seed in Region 6B and were looking to make it to the SODAK 16 qualifying game as the top seed from 6B.
Berkley Birney helped the Chargers in the first quarter scoring all eight of the points for Sully Buttes and keeping within striking distance of Highmore-Harrold who took a 15-8 lead after one quarter of play. Like the first meeting, Jada Baloun would be a scoring presence for the Pirates scoring 11 first half points which were all in the first. Highmore-Harrold could not miss from three in the first half going a perfect 5-5 from out the arch helping 22 second quarter scoring for the Pirates to take a 37-14 lead.
The Chargers struggled to make shots in the second half with the Pirates outscoring them 23-17 making a 60-31 final as the buzzer sounded one final time for the Sully Buttes season. The Chargers were led by Birney who finished the game with 10 points Nevaeh Westphal added seven on the night.
Sully Buttes finish the season 5-17 and going 1-1 in the Region 6B Tournament. They would end the season going 3-3 in their last six games.
