(Onida, SD) – The Sully Buttes girls basketball team picked up their biggest win of the season Monday night in the first round of the Region 6B playoffs. The defeated Tiospaye Topa Thunderhawks 77-13 and will be in Highmore Tuesday to take on the Pirates at 7 p.m.
The Chargers brought the defense and full court press and it paid off causing 29 turnovers on the night. After a 19-5 first quarter start, Sully Buttes allowed just two points in the second quarter. They added 27 which was their highest quarter output of the season. At half, Sully Buttes lead 46-7.
The Chargers outscored the Thunderhawks 31-6 in the second half having the final score be 77-13. Everyone for the Sully Buttes was able to make it to the scores column tonight with three in double digits. Berkley Birney led the scoring with 16 points tonight. Jaydn Jaegar and Scottlyn Kinney finished with 14 points each.
With the win, Sully Buttes now face top seed Highmore-Harrold in Highmore at 7 p.m. The Pirates were victorious against the Chargers in the only meeting of the season 57-26. Country 95.3 will have the call in Highmore on Country 95.3 F.M. and online at Country 95.3 Sports on YouTube.
Region 6B Update
The other region 6B contest feature seven seed Wakpala being upset by ten seed Sunshine Bible Academy. The Lady Crusaders won 60-49 and were up 52-32 at one point in the contest. Sunshine Bible Academy will make a long road trip to Herreid/Selby Area Tuesday for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
The other Region 6B games for the girls feature North Central hosting Faulkton Area, and Gettysburg making a trip to Ipswich. Winners move on for the right play the last game to qualify for the SODAK 16.
