PIERRE, (KCCR) — A bill that would have allowed the holder of a Capitol Access Pass to enter the South Dakota State Capitol building in Pierre from any door has essentially been killed by the House State Affairs Committee. House Bill 1256 was in front of that Committee last week when it’s sponsor, Representative Tim Goodwin asked the Committee not to consider it…
Goodwin gave no explanation as to why he wanted the bill pulled from consideration. The Committee largely supported the tabling motion 11 to one. Capitol Access Passes allow a holder to bypass enhanced security at the north entrance to the Capitol. The passes have been in place since 2020 and require yearly renewal with a criminal background check to obtain.
