The Pierre Governor girls basketball team will be on the road for two games this weekend in Mitchell and Sioux Falls while the boys will host Mitchell tonight.
The Governor girls get two games, one in the eighth spot in the standings and one at the very bottom of the standings. The Govs open the weekend against the 11-6 Mitchell Kernels who lost on Tuesday to Washington by 10 and overall have lost three in a row to Spearfish and to Aberdeen Central. It comes on the heels of a 10 game winning streak. It’s also the first time in 2026 the Kernels will play at the Corn Palace with most games played at the high school. Then Pierre will finish traveling to Sioux Falls to face the winless Lincoln Patriots. At 0-18, the Patriots are coming off a loss to Jefferson on Thursday at Jefferson while the Govs will be looking to win both and get to 6-11 before a second three game week to close out the regular season next week.
The Governor boys are at home for the lone game of the weekend with the Govs picking up the win on Tuesday at Brookings behind Corde Austin’s 30 point night. Mitchell is 8-8 after beating Washington 52-49 on the road on Tuesday. Mitchell has won three of the last four and has tried to take advantage of teams below them in the standings and against teams below .500. Pierre is 5-11 and will have a three game week next week to close out the regular with two of the three at home making three of the last four at the friendly confines of Pierre High School.
Tip off tonight is at 7:00 for both games with the girls tipping at 2:00 on Saturday at Lincoln. The boys game tonight will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Wyatt Burichka on the call.
