It’s a busy weekend for the Oahe Capitals as both the girls and boys will play two games each with Saturday being senior night and the girls wrapping up the regular season on Sunday.
Starting tonight, the Capital boys will face the undefeated Rushmore Thunder trying to be the first team in two years to knock off the Thunder who are 19-0 and have clinched the number one seed in the state tournament. Rushmore has a 192 goal differential scoring 207 goals through 19 games while giving up just 15. Then on Saturday, Oahe will face the Brookings Rangers on the final home game of the regular season. The Caps, at 10-7-0-1 will be back in the state tournament but have an opportunity to play two good games against two good teams to build momentum before the final weekend of the regular season. Brookings is 12-6-2-0 and are most likely playing in the 4-5 game in the first round of the state tournament.
The Lady Capitals will close out the season this weekend on Saturday and Sunday. The Caps will take on Brookings on Saturday for its senior night. Oahe is 13-6 and will face the 16-2 Rangers who will most likely be the two seed in the state tournament, but the Caps can force them to be the two seed if they beat them. Oahe will be three seed. Then on Sunday, Oahe ends the regular season with an early game against Aberdeen. Aberdeen is heading into the weekend in seventh place, but just one point ahead of eighth and one point behind fourth. A lot will be determined to close the season this weekend as there is a chance the Caps and Cougars could end the regular season against each other and be first round opponents in Mitchell at the state tournament.
Tonight’s game will be on the air around 7:40 with puck drop at 8:00. Then Saturday coverage of the Lady Caps and Rangers will being around 11:25 with puck drop at 11:45 and then the boys game that night with puck drop at 7:15 all on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports. The Lady Caps and Aberdeen game will have puck drop at 9:00 AM Sunday morning, but will not be on the air with the KCCR Farm, Home and Sport show this weekend.
