The Pierre Governor basketball teams will be back on the court after a week break as the Governors battle the Brookings Bobcats with the girls hosting and the boys on the road.
Both teams are facing the Bobcats who are below them in the standings as both Bobcats teams are outside of the SoDak 16. It’s the start of a busy week for the Governor girls as they play host to Brookings tonight before being in Mitchell on Friday and then to Sioux Falls to face Lincoln on Saturday. Pierre is in 15th place in the AA standings at 3-11 and will want to go above .500 this week with two teams below them in the standings but have to take care of the 2-13 Bobcats tonight. Brookings opened up the season with a win over Watertown then losing 11 straight prior to beating winless Lincoln. The Bobcats have lost the last two heading into tonight. Pierre is trying to stop a six game losing streak.
The Governor boys are trying to stay inside the top 16 to make the SoDak 16 as the Govs are 4-11 facing the 1-14 Bobcats who are in 17th in the standings. The Bobcats dropped its first 10 games before beating Stevens and have now lost four straight heading into tonight. A win is important for either team as the Govs could potentially fall behind the Bobcats with a loss on the road tonight. The Governors have lost four straight and are into the final quarter of the season with three of the last five games at home.
Coverage tonight will begin at 6:30 with the girls game at home with tip off at 7:00 at Riggs High School on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
