PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Pierre City Commissioner has announced intentions to run for Mayor and challenge incumbent Mayor Steve Harding. On Friday, Todd Johnson announced his intentions to seek the gavel at the Pierre Municipal Building. In a press release to local media Johnson says he’s worked hard to identify himself as a resource and a relationship builder with numerous agencies. Johnson says he’s running for Mayor because of concerns he has heard from community members about what he calls a lack of the current local government’s willingness to listen and be forthcoming with information the public should have access too. Johnson says one focus of his is to improve support for quote “other agencies” and repairing the working relationships between Pierre and other local governments. Johnson says he’s always felt it’s a great team that makes a great coach and not a great coach that makes a great team. Johnson is School Safety Coordinator for the Pierre School District. Petitions to run for Mayor can be taken out in early March.
