On Hall of Fame day Saturday, the Pierre Governor girls basketball team would take an early lead on the Tea Area Titans but would end up falling at home 71-55.
Pierre led 16-14 after the first quarter of play and built a 29-22 lead in the second before Tea finished the quarter on a 12-0 run to lead 34-29 at the break. Tea pulled away in the fourth quarter after still a five point lead after three as the Titans outscored the Govs 23-12 in the fourth to pick up the 16 point win as the Titans improved to 9-6 while Pierre drops to 3-10. Ellie Clayberg had the game high 23 points for Titans as four players hit double figures with Emma Lingren having 14 off the bench and Jayna Van-Laecken and Anna Binde having 13 and 12. Pierre was led in scoring by Molly Olson’s 19 points while Emery Larson had 17. Jordyn Kirkie pulled down 10 rebounds for the Govs who have dropped five straight.
The Governors will host Huron on Tuesday while the boys team will travel to Huron. The girls game will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
