Governor Boys Win Yankton Invite, Girls Third

The Pierre Governor wrestling teams would be in Yankton on Friday and Saturday as the Governor girls would place third on Friday and the Governor boys would win the day on Saturday.

For the governor girls, they would score a 147 and finish behind both Canton and Aberdeen Central as Pierre had nine of the 11 wrestlers hit the podium on Saturday. The Governors had both Lexie Hillmer and Abbigail Lewis win their respective weight class championships while Shaylee Speck would reach the championship match placing second. Kezrey Benning also placed third in Yankton.

The Governor boys would grab another team championship in the last couple of weeks as they lead up to the state dual tournament next weekend. Pierre scored a 247 while second place Watertown scored a 193.5. Gable Uhrig, who reached 100 career wins in the tournament, would win his weight class along with Alex Oedekoven, but Pierre had a total of six in championship matches with Jordan Schafer, Porter Hunsley, Will Eilers and Kalo Steely all taking home second place. Daniel Mason also placed third along with Rowdy Menning as Pierre had all 15 wrestlers hit the podium for the day in the 14 weight classes.

You can see a full list of the results below for both tournaments. The Governor girls will be in Brandon Valley on Thursday for the ESD Tournament while the Governor boys will be in Pierre on Friday for the Class A Dual State Tournament.
