It’s Pink the Rink this weekend at the Expo Center in Fort Pierre and the Oahe Capitals varsity teams will both be at home hosting the Aberdeen Cougars.
The Lady Capitals have just four games left in the regular season with two of the four against Aberdeen. The Caps beat the Cougars 1-0 back on Sunday, November 23, the second game of the season. At 13-4, Oahe can’t fall beyond third place, but Aberdeen is trying to get out of eighth place with only five games remaining and three points back of sixth and seventh. Goals can be limited as Chloe Vikander is one of the best goalies in the state and makes life difficult to be scored on. But the Cougars have only scored 23 goals in 16 games.
Then, that night, the boys varsity is returning to the ice after having last weekend off. The Caps are 9-6 and in sixth place in the standings ahead of Watertown by three points and 10 points ahead of Aberdeen who is the first team right now out of the state tournament in ninth place. With a win on Saturday, Oahe would need just four points between the Caps winning and Aberdeen losing and not getting any points for the Caps to secure a spot in the state tournament. The Cougars are 4-9 having played the fewest games in the state to this point.
Pink the Rink day begins at 8:00 with PeeWee C hosting Rushmore with the girls varsity playing at 12:00 and the boys varsity at 8:00 to close the night. Both varsity games will be on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
