(Gettysburg, SD) – A rivalry renew on the court Friday night between Sully Buttes and Gettysburg. With the regular season coming to close, winning is more important than ever. A rivalry, seed points, and packed crowed. Who wouldn’t want that on a Friday night? It will be the first time since Potter County returns to the Gettysburg name. The girls will tip-off at 6:30 p.m. with the boys to follow. Country 95.3 will have the coverage.
Both teams enter Friday after different results for the girls contest. Sully Buttes are 2-13 entering Friday after dropping their last home game against Jones County 54-34. The Chargers sit with a three game losing streak with their last win being on January 22 against Stanley County 48-32. Gettysburg is 8-7 on the season and squeaked out of Redfield with a 40-39 win. The Lady Battlers are currently on a four game winning streak.
While a lot could change in the Region 6B standings on the girls side with the top and bottom of the standings (see below); Gettysburg currently has a three point seed advantage over the Chargers and sit sixth in the team standings. They will most likely be on the road in the region tournament in their first game baring chaos in the final weeks. The Chargers sit eighth and are fighting to host a first round game in the Region 6B tournament to get into the field of eight in the regional tournament. They currently have a one seed point lead over Tiospaye Topa.
Since 2006, the Sully Buttes Chargers are 11-1 against the Battlers when they had the Gettysburg name. The lone win for Gettysburg was in 2010 with a final 38-32. However, when they were Potter County, the Chargers have lost the last three meetings. Last win happening in 2023 winning 63-52.
Sully Buttes picked up their biggest win of the season over Jones County 84-54 Tuesday night after a tough loss on Saturday and are now 10-4 on the season. The Battlers also were victorious in their lasts game winning 75-66 against Redfield Tuesday. Gettysburg have split their last four games.
The Chargers are the ahead of the pack of the Region 6B Standings sitting first in the team standings (see below). With big wins including Stanley County and Lyman, the Chargers are only helping themselves with a win against the Battlers. Gettysburg is third in the Region 6B standings and are going to be looking to keep their name in for a first round home game in the region tournament.
For the boys, the Chargers have won the last two meetings against then Porter County. Sully Buttes won 61-55 last season. Under the Gettysburg name, the Chargers have swept the battlers from 2006-2012. The last win for Gettysburg was in 2024 (as Potter County) winning 54-43.
