Pierre native Grey Zabel will look to become the first ever from Pierre to win a Super Bowl on Sunday as the Seattle Seahawks take on the New England Patriots which can be heard on KCCR.
Zabel became the first from Pierre to be drafted to the NFL and not only that, became a first round draft pick in 2025 after finishing his career at North Dakota State with an FCS Championship, his second with the Bison. Zabel became an instant impact player and played and started in all 17 games in the regular season along with the two playoff games in which the the Seahawks beat the San Francisco 49ers 41-6 and the Los Angeles Rams 31-27. The Seahawks went 14-3 winning the NFC West and grabbed the number one overall seed in the conference. His success dating back to his sophomore year of high school is a remarkable run. He won three state championships in a row before graduating, won two FCS championships and played in three title games in five seasons with the Bison and now in the Super Bowl his rookie year. Zabel still loves the community where he grew up and played football winning three state championships at Pierre. At the Super Bowl media event, Zabel says he’s gotten a lot of text messages and phone calls of support…
Zabel says he believes he’s far from a hero in his hometown…
Zabel says he hopes it can give kids hope to keep pursuing dreams…
No matter the outcome of Sunday’s game, the Pierre area can agree Zabel is a hometown hero and the area will be cheering loudly for Zabel on Sunday. Kickoff is around 5:30 on KCCR with coverage beginning after the church service around 12:00.
