PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Rapid City man is arrested Sunday night on burglary and other charges. Pierre Police Captain Kyle Cummings says officers were called Sunday night just before 8:30 pm to a residence on Monroe Avenue to a report of an unknown male subject who had entered a home through the buildings back door. It was reported that after looking around the home, the homeowner encountered the subject and told him to leave. That suspect departed as told. The homeowner told police the suspect, 26 year-old Whyatt Mashek, was talking nonsensically. Upon arrival by officers, the homeowner presented a description of Mashek and his vehicle to police. Officers caught up to Mashek later and observed signs consistent with drug use by Mashek. Mashek was transported to the Hughes County Jail on charges including First Degree Burglary; First Offense Driving Under the Influence and Failure to use a Seatbelt.
