The Brandon Valley Lynx boys and girls team would get past the Pierre Governors on Thursday night with the Lynx girls winning 84-33 at home and the boys team would win on the road 56-38.
Brandon Valley girls would run out to a 19 point first quarter lead scoring 31 points and had a 50-18 lead at the break as the running clock would be enacted to start the third quarter. Even with the running clock the Lynx were efficient in the second half to still put 34 points in the half to remain unbeaten at now 9-0 while the Governor girls fall to 3-6 on the year. Olivia Padgett had 30 points in the ball game for BV to lead all scorers. Molly Olson had 11 for the Govs.
The Governor boys game final score wouldn’t indicate how well the Govs played on the night as Pierre trailed 12-2 early on a 12-0 run by the Lynx, but would cut the deficit down to a single possession in the third as the Govs didn’t turn the ball over much on the night. They had just eight turnovers to Brandon Valley’s nine. However, Ayuel Deng was unstoppable in the second quarter scoring 13 points of his 25 to give the Lynx a 25-18 lead at the break and then would get the contributions from others in the second half to swell the lead up as Pierre was 11-21 from the free throw line leaving valuable points off the scoreboard when the game was at its closest. Corde Austin had 18 for the Govs while Lincoln Dilges added 10 as Pierre falls to 3-7 on the season and Brandon Valley moves to 4-5 on the year.
The Governors will have the weekend off from games and will face Aberdeen Central next Tuesday with the girls traveling for a third straight time and the boys hosting. The girls game will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
