PIERRE, (KCCR) — The names of two men killed Friday in a five-vehicle chain reaction crash have been released by the South Dakota Highway Patrol. The crash happened five miles west of Reliance on Interstate 90 around 3:45 Friday afternoon. A 2025 Kenworth, driven by 50 year-old Drew Kellison of Locust Grove, Virginia, was traveling west when he slowed for a crash in front of him. Kellison’s semi was rear ended by a Mercury Sable driven by 28 year-old Reed Harter of Colome. Harter and his front seat passenger, 27 year-old Chandler Bakely of Martin were killed in the crash. Two other passengers, 27 year-old Wyatt Kayser of Alexandria and 26 year-old Cameron Quigley of Harford sustained serious, non-life threatening injuries. Harter and Bakley were using seat belts at the time. Two Fort F-150 pickups were involved in the crash. All four occupants of the first pickup were using restraints. The two occupants of the second pickup did not use belts and suffered serious, non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the fifth vehicle, 52 year-old Catana Ehlers was using a seat belt and received minor injuries. Authorities believe weather conditions including blowing snow and whiteout conditions contributed to the crash.
