An incredible game just couldn’t finish the way Stanley County wanted it as the Lyman Raiders would win the Jones County Invitational Championship in overtime over the Buffaloes 52-47 Saturday night.
The two teams entered overtime tied at 43 with Eddie Duffy hitting a shot in the final six seconds to tie the game up to help force overtime. The Raiders would outscore the Buffs 9-4 in the overtime period to claim the Jones County Invitational championship in.a hard fought battle between two high quality teams. It’s only the first loss of the season for the Buffs as the Raiders would win the tournament for the first time since 2005 denying the Buffs a back-to-back championship. Duffy finished with 19 points lead the Buffs while Paxton Deal had 15 and Trevor Caldwell brought down seven rebounds for the Buffs. Deal would be named the MVP for the tournament despite the championship loss. Both Deal and Duffy were named to the All-Tournament 1st team and Duffy also was awarded the Kern award.
Stanley County falls to 8-1 and will be right back in Murdo on Tuesday, but this time to face the Jones County Coyotes, who they didn’t play in the tournament as part of a boys and girls doubleheader.
