PIERRE, (KCCR) — The Pierre Capital Journal newspaper is coming under new ownership from a regional newspaper company. Forum Communications announced on Wednesday they will be acquiring seven total newspapers include in South Dakota the Capital Journal in Pierre and Madison Daily Leader in Madison. Other papers being purchased by Forum include papers in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, Willison, Wahpeton and Hankinson North Dakota and a paper in Sidney, Montana. All of the papers are being sold by the Arizona-based, family-owned Wick Communications. Forum Communications is based in Fargo, North Dakota and has media ownership in South Dakota of the Mitchell Republic in Mitchell, K-S-F-L T-V, Sioux Falls Live in Sioux Falls and NewsCenter One in Rapid City. Forum has a legacy dating back over 100 years with media ownership in the Dakotas, Minnesota and Wisconsin and soon Montana. The official transition of ownership of the Capital Journal to Forum from Wick is February 1st. The Capital Journal was purchased by Wick back in 2005. The Capital Journal is the officially declared newspaper for the cities of Pierre and Fort Pierre and Hughes and Stanley Counties.
