PIERRE, (KCCR) –A Pierre T-F Riggs High School student is one of two South Dakota youth selected to take part in the United States Senate Youth Program. Chloe Bowers of Pierre and Haley Cunningham of Rapid City have been chosen to take part with 102 other students from across the country in the program. Both are also getting 10-thousand dollars in undergraduate college scholarships for being selected. The program is an intense, week-long study of the federal government and the individuals moving the country forward. It will include meeting Senators, President Donald Trump, members of the United States Supreme Court and others. Bowers has an extensive record of participation in various programs at Riggs including F-B-L-A; Speech and Debate Captain, volunteering with the South Dakota State Bar and interning at the South Dakota Discovery Center as a summer educator. Bowers is looking to major in international relations on a pre-law track and aspires to work for the U-S State Department to eventually serve a U-S embassy in a smaller country she as the Marshall Islands where she grew up. The U-S Senate Youth Program began in 1962.
