It was a homecoming for Pierre native and former Oahe Capital Carter Sanderson this past weekend as the Muskegon Lumberjacks came to town to face the Sioux Falls Stampede in a weekend set of games.
Last week Wednesday, Sanderson was named the new captain of the Lumberjacks and made his debut as captain in his home state with plenty of Capital families in attendance to see the first ever NHL draftee from South Dakota play. The Lumberjacks would lose Friday’s game 7-4 where Muskegon tried to make a furious comeback in the third trailing 6-1 and made it 6-4 as Sanderson scored his lone goal of the weekend deflecting a shot in front of the net. Saturday’s game went a lot better for Muskegon as the Lumberjacks would win 5-3 with three third period goals as Sanderson would get an assist on the game winning goal. Muskegon is now 23-10 on the season after the weekend split. But after each game, Sanderson would get to see a lot of friends and families to get high fives, hugs and sign autographs for the kids who came to see him play.
