The Pierre Governor girls and boys basketball teams would each fall to the Washington Warriors with the girls falling at home 54-22 while the boys dropped it 77-57 on the road in Sioux Falls.
In the girls game, Pierre would be outscored in the first quarter 23-2 as the Warriors forced 12 turnovers in the first to add bucket after bucket. The Govs, who were outsized, could not get around the taller Warrior squad trying to break the press after made baskets. The running clock started early in the third quarter. Dana Harpe would finish with a game high 13 points for the Warriors who improved to 7-0 on the season. Layla Berte and Josie Biteler each had 10. The Governors were led by Molly Olson, Emery Larson and Alex Ludemann each having six.
In the boys game, the hot shooting by Washington led to a 59 point first half leading 59-33 at the break and would also enact a running clock in the second half to limit the scoring in the second half for the Warriors. Jhace Woods would have 18 points to lead the Warriors who improve to 2-5 on the season. Benjamin Sprecher had 15 and Sam Uhing had 13 for the Warriors. Corde Austin and Lincoln Dilges had 17 and 16 points respectively and Jerren Deal had 12 as three players hit double figures for the Govs in the loss.
Both teams are now 2-5 on the season with the boys traveling to Tea for the lone game of the week on Tuesday.
