PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Pierre man is using social media to declare his candidacy for Hughes County Sheriff. Monday evening Jeff Metzinger of Pierre declared on Facebook he intends to run for the Sheriff’s Office of Hughes County. In the post titled to friends and family, Metzinger says he’s considered the run for sheriff for months and after many conversations with community members. Metzinger has been a certified South Dakota law enforcement officer for over 26 years, serving with the Pierre Police Department, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, Pierre Area Police Reserve and the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force. Metzinger says in the post on his personal page he intends to establish a candidate page on Facebook in the near future. Metzinger is a lifetime Hughes County resident along with a local business owner, farmer and rancher.
