The Pierre Governor wrestling team is making a long trip down to Yankton tonight for a triangular with Brookings as both the Govs boys and girls look to remain unbeaten.
The Governors would get a win over Huron on Friday to start 2026, but are only 2-0 so far in duals. Yankton is 4-2 heading into tonight with wins over Stevens, Mitchell, Millbank and Beresford/Alcester-Hudson. But, Yankton is 1-2 in ESD contests with the two losses being to Watertown and Aberdeen Central. The Governors have a win over Aberdeen Central in the first dual of the season. Meanwhile, Brookings is just 0-1 in duals with a loss to Tea 40-31 who is already 10-8. Brookings last competed at a Holiday Tournament hosted by Lincoln on December 30.
The Governor girls, also at 2-0 will face the 1-2 Gazelles and the1-0 Bobcats. Yankton has not wrestled Aberdeen Central like the boys so there are no common opponents between the two teams. Brookings lone dual is a 48-6 win over Tea and the Bobcats placed fourth in Lincoln. The Governors have wins over Aberdeen Central and Huron to start the year.
The rolling schedule begins at 4:00 this afternoon at Yankton High School.
