PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Pierre home is destroyed in a weekend fire. Firefighters were called Saturday morning around 1:45 am to the 200 block of Orion Avenue. As firefighters arrived they encountered a heavy smoke condition and flames coming from the structure. Fire Chief Ian Paul says crews began with a defensive attack on the fire due to the intensity of the blaze. As firefighters got the fire under control they moved to an interior attack. A neighbor reported the fire and made contact with the home’s occupants to alert them to the fire. Three adults and one child exited the home with no injuries. Two pets were also safely removed from the residence. The single-wide mobile is considered a total loss after sustaining significant damage. Paul says the fire appears to have started outside of the home and the cause has been deemed accidental by investigators. No foul play is suspected. Firefighters were on scene approximately three-and-a-half hours. Donations of clothing to help the family can be taken to the M-H-C Office at 101 Polaris Avenue in Pierre.
