(Aberdeen, SD) – Eight players were suited up for a contest Saturday afternoon in Aberdeen. A chance to win their first game of the season for the Sully Buttes girls team, and they pulled it off. Sully Buttes after starting the season 0-5 came out of Saturday afternoon with a win over Aberdeen Christian 35-23.
Coming off their best game of the season even though it was a loss against Phillip, Sully Buttes were looking to carry the momentum into Saturday. However, they were going to have some adversity. Eight players were set to suit up and the Chargers would have only seven players play the second half. Sully Buttes were outscored in the first quarter after trying to get settled in after a long road trip and a different approach to the short bench the Chargers only made one shot from the field in the first.
The second quarter would be a different story. Sully Buttes would score 15 points in the second quarter lead by Jadyn Jaegar scoring six points in the second and finished the game with 13. The Chargers got contributions from Scottlyn Kinney who scored six points in the game, and Myli Weischedel who added seven of her own in the contest. The halftime score was 20-14
Sully Buttes third quarter didn’t have a lot of scoring but they would hold the Knights to just a single point in the third which help build the lead for the Chargers to 28-15 after three quarters of play. The four quarter was much of the same even though Sully Buttes were outscored 8-7 in the fourth. But the third and four quarters would be big for the Chargers to secure their first win of the season 35-23.
With the win, the Chargers are now 1-5 on the season and will have three days of basketball next week starting on Tuesday where they are on the road to Ipswich. They will have a short trip to Highmore-Harrold on Friday and will compete in the Redfield classic on Saturday. Sully Buttes boys have two dates schedule where they host Highmore-Harrold Thursday and will be on the road Saturday for the Round Ball Classic in Volga.
