(Onida, SD) – Sully Buttes Basketball split Friday and Saturday with both the boys and girls playing one game. Friday saw the girls in Herreid while the boys were at home against Winner. The girls would fall 55-23 while the boys picked up their second win of the season 70-53.
The Sully Buttes girls were seeking their first win of the season after falling to Lyman on Tuesday night. While the Chargers kept things close after one, the second quarter saw the Wolverines pull away. They would outscore Sully Buttes 23-4 to make it 38-11 after one half of play. The Chargers added 12 points while the Wolverines scored 17 in the second half on a rough night of shooting. The final score 55-23. Sully Buttes would convert six made shots and nine free throws on the evening. Myil Weischedel led the scoring for the Chargers with seven points.
It felt like the Chargers couldn’t miss on Saturday as they were looking to improve to 2-0. They were also looking to snap a five game losing streak against Winner. The last win was in 2019. The Chargers would find help from everyone once again. However, it was the three point game that helped Sully Buttes, shooting 53 percent from three point land making 10 threes. The Chargers shot 55 percent from the field. They lead after every quarter with the biggest lead being the final score. The Warriors largest lead was five but it was short live. It was the second chances and capitalizing on turnover for Sully Buttes in the win. Wesley Wittler lead all scorers with 31 points.
The Sully Buttes girls are now 0-3 on the season while the boys are 2-0. They will host Wolsey-Wessington Monday with tip off beginning at 4:45 for the girls and the boys to follow. Coverage will be on Country 95.3 F.M. and online at Country 95.3 Sports on YouTube.
