The Pierre Governor basketball teams would switch wins on Saturday with the boys falling 63-60 to Rapid City Central while the Governor girls would win 61-51 as both are now 1-1.
For the Governor girls, Jordyn Kirkie’s big fourth quarter defensively would help lead the Governors to hold on and get the 10 point win. She was one point short of a double double with nine points and 10 rebounds while Emery Larson hit seven threes in the game to have the game high 25 points. Ellen Hart also had nine points as the Govs led at the half but trailed after three quarters. Pierre outscored the Cobblers 23-9 in the fourth moving to 1-1 on the season.
On the road, the Governor boys would fall by three to Rapid City Central. The Govs hit a three to get within three, but could not get the steal on the inbound and the Cobblers were able to race up the floor and run out the clock to get the win as Rapid City Central moves to 2-0 to start the year. Lincoln Dilges had 16 to lead the Governors while Caiden Ahartz had 12 for Pierre. Corde Austin finished with nine after a team high 19 on Friday. Julius Duran had a game high 23 points for the Cobblers while Preston Yellow had 20.
The Governors will have the boys at home on Friday and Saturday hosting Sturgis and Spearfish while the girls will travel to Sturgis and Spearfish. The boys game on Friday will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
