The Stanley County Buffaloes would hit the road to Miller a day later than expected after Thursday’s games were moved to Friday. The Lady Buffs would fall 62-26, but the boys team would win 69-47 to open the season.
In the first game, the Lady Buffs struggled to get the offense going in the first half down 15-6 after the first and 30-8 at the break. Stanley County scored a game high 13 in the third quarter but were matched by the Rustlers as it was 43-21 after three. Addy Deal would lead Stanley County with 10 points while Austyn Norman and JoRayah Walker each had six as the Buffs drop to 0-2. Madelyn Saienga had the game high 17 points for the Rustlers while Jolie Palmer had 13 and Paige Werdel had 11 as the three were in double figures for Miller who opened the season with a win.
In the boys contest, Stanley County got a monster game from Eddie Duffy to start the season especially with Paxton Deal having to deal with early foul trouble. Duffy had 22 points to lead the Buffs in the win opening the season also hitting five threes. Stanley County led 31-26 at the half, but a 20-7 lead in scoring in the third quarter helped salt the game away. Deal still finished with 18 points for the Buffs all in the second half. Derek Brueggeman had 15 points to lead the Rustlers who drop to 0-1 on the season.
The Lady Buffs will still play one more game this weekend, Saturday around 6:30 in White River. The Buffalo boys team will take on Winner next on Tuesday part of a doubleheader.
