PIERRE, (KCCR) — Expect to see more Liams and Laineys in the years to come. They were the top boys and girls names for babies within the Avera Health system this year. Avera birthing centers brought into the world six-thousand 227 babies in 2025. System wide, the top names for boys were Liam, Noah, Henry, Hudson and Cooper. Leading girl names across the Avera footprint include Lainey, Evelyn, Amelia, Eleanor and Emma. Closer to central South Dakota, the top boys names in 2025 at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre include Asher at number one, followed by Oliver, Otto, Abel and Anthony. The most popular girl’s name at St. Mary’s this year was Charlotte; then Hadley at number two, Amelia, Chloe and Emma. July was the most popular month for births in the Avera system. With two and a half weeks remaining in 2025 the running total of six-thousand 227 may be adjusted after the end of the year. Avera serves 100 communities in a five-state region with more than 315 locations and over 22-thousand, 600 staff.
