PIERRE, (KCCR) — It’s another milestone that the new John Waldron Memorial Bridge project is coming to an end. On Friday, the final bi-weekly project update newsletter was sent out by public relations firm Project Solutions. As for the final update, the bridge construction access yard road was removed from just north of Highway 14/83/34 on the Fort Pierre side. The adjacent ditch was fully cut in as well. The. final topsoil was installed on the Fort Pierre side along with the placing of landscape boulders. All construction equipment has been removed from the site. Only a small punch list of items remain that will be finished in the spring. Snow at the beginning of December prevented that work from getting finished and crews will do that work in the spring, taking only a few days once underway. The final construction activities were completed prior to Thanksgiving. The first project newsletter was released on January 15th of 2021 with a total of 126 having been released over the four years of the Waldron bridge’s construction.
