Tonight is the home opener for the Oahe Lady Capitals as they host the Rushmore Thunder before heading on the road Saturday to take on the Brookings Rangers.
The Caps are 2-0 to start the year with two one goal wins, beating Mitchell 2-1 and shutting out Aberdeen 1-0 last weekend. Kierstan Miller, Micah Buffalo and Brenna Ullman have all scored so far this season and Kylee Fromm has 49 saves on 50 shots through two games. The Caps will look to keep up the defensive pressure, but add to its offensive output starting tonight against Rushmore. The Thunder are 0-3 having lost all three games last weekend to the Brookings Rangers by scores of 7-0, 7-1 and 4-0. The Thunder will want more offense but will see a stingy Capitals defense.
Then on Saturday, the Caps will get a showdown with the Rangers who won’t play on Friday prior to the contest on Saturday. The rivalry renews between these two teams who have pretty much been .500 with each other over the last several years. The Rangers are averaging those six goals a game, but it can be a lot lower scoring of a game with both goalies playing well.
Coverage of Friday night’s game will begin at 5:40 with puck drop at 6:00. Saturday’s game will have puck drop at 5:00, but will not be on the air. You can catch Friday’s game on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
