PIERRE, (KCCR) — A state prison inmate, on the run since early November is back in custody. The South Dakota Department of Corrections says 37 year-old Latoya Shangreaux failed to return to the Pierre Minimum Center from a work release assignment November 7th. Shangreaux was arrested in the Rapid City area on Saturday, November 22nd. Shangreaux was sentenced in July to five years in prison on a Habitual Offender information for having three priory felonies for possession of a controlled substance for having methamphetamine. Charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Impersonation to Deceive Law Enforcement and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia were dismissing a plea deal. She was given credit for 76 days served in jail. Now, Shangreaux is facing a second-degree escape charge in Hughes County for walking away from the work release assignment. Second-degree escape is a Class Five felony with a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
