The Pierre Governor football team starts its playoff run tonight as they host the Tea Area Titans in the 3-6 matchup in the 11AA quarterfinals at Hollister Field.
The Governors and Titans have been on the separate ends of the schedule and the bracket over the last couple of years with the Govs last playing the Titans in October of 2023 when the Governors beat the Titans in Tea 26-18 in a cold, windy and misty night. The Titans are coming in at 5-4 having lost three straight to Watertown, Yankton and then to Washington after starting the year at 5-1 with its only loss to Huron. The Governors, on the other hand, are coming in having won three straight with wins over Sturgis, Spearfish and Douglas to close the regular season. However, Steve Steele, head coach of the Pierre Governors says winning or losing streaks don’t matter when it comes to the playoffs…
The Titans are a run first team and try and ground and pound the ball throughout the night. While the two teams haven’t played in two years, Steele says you can still see a lot of the same tendencies from year’s past with this team…
Steele says a fast start is important tonight for the Govs…
Coverage tonight from Hollister Field in Pierre begins at 5:30 with kickoff at 6:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Blake Dean on the call.
