The Pierre Governors came in and got out with a 49-0 win over the Douglas Patriots on Thursday night to close the regular season at 6-3 while Douglas finishes the year at 0-9.
The Governors would score in just four plays to open the game as Keya Ducheneaux would get the one yard touchdown run and then Pierre would recover the ensuing kick which landed 30 yards down the field and not grabbed by the Patriots. Jerren Deal would score from 30 yards out and Pierre had a 14-0 lead in just two minutes of game time. Porter Hunsley would block a punt for Ayden Behm to score to make it 21-0 and Carter Schiefelebein had a touchdown reception as Pierre led 28-0 at the end of the first quarter. Schiefelbein would also have a rushing touchdown, Lincoln Digles a receiving touchdown and Will Danburg added on the final score as Pierre played the entire second half with a running clock and second unit players. Sutton Sonnenschein had two interceptions while Lincoln Schoenhard had an INT as the defense allowed just 88 yards of offense to Douglas.
Pierre will be at home on Thursday next week for the first round of the 11AA playoffs. Pierre will host the Tea Area Titans in the 3-6 matchup, but time is still to be determined, but coverage will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Blake Dean on the call.
