Tonight the Pierre Governors will have its opportunity to reach the state championship as the Governors will face the Harrisburg Tigers in the soccer state semifinals in Harrisburg.
The Governors come in with 11 goals through two games of the state playoffs and will need every ounce of the offensive output in the first two games for tonight against the best defensive team in the state. Harrisburg is 14-1-1 and had allowed just three goals all season, all in one game, in a 3-1 loss to O’Gorman. The lone tie for the Tigers was a 0-0 draw Lincoln. These two teams met back in Pierre on Thursday September 11 and the Tigers won 2-0. Harrisburg beat Washington 4-0 and then squeaked past Yankton 1-0 with a late second half goal which ended up being somewhat controversial. Pierre has a 5-1 win over Mitchell and 6-2 win over Watertown to reach the state semifinals. Pierre is 13-2-1 and have won six straight.
